No reading in bed, no laptops in bed, no texting or discording in bed.\n\n2. No electronic devices, unless it's background noise to help you sleep.\n\n3. Close your eyes and try to relax your muscles. Even if you can't sleep, laying in bed with your eyes closed is still better than being active.\n\n4. If, after an hour of laying there with your eyes closed, you really aren't falling asleep, get up and get out of bed. Do something else for 30 minutes to an hour (NOT anything electronic. Do some light exercise like yoga, go on a short walk, play/snuggle with a pet, drink something), don't do anything overly stimulating either mentally or physically. Repeat step 3.\n\n5. When you wake up, don't go back to bed. Don't hit snooze. Don't tell yourself 5 more minutes.\n\n6. Do not nap during the day. If your brain feels foggy and melty, do something less mentally taxing, but force yourself to stay awake.\n\n7. When it is sleepy time, make sure it's dark. So if you're at step 4, if possible, keep the lights off. When it's time to be awake, make it light.\n\n8. Make a nightly routine. Practice it a few times to figure out how long it takes. Figure out how much sleep you need and when you need to be in bed by to get that amount of sleep.\n\n9. Go to bed at the same time every day and wake up at the same time every day. Even weekends. Even when you have nothing to do. If you have to wake up early on work days, wake up early on your off days.\n\n10. Get a cat. This one is a joke (sort of), but cats love routines and you can use that to your advantage."}
